nice setting. if Sister is afraid of wine stains or any stains on her linen – she could always spray that with Scotchguard. I do that even to the finest silks, linens and other fabrics i have at home and it works wonderfully! if wine was inadvertently spilled on it, use club soda to remove the stain. but just be careful when it comes to the fading of the fabric. test in small area first.

Carol, I’m glad you tried the fruitcake recipe, I’ve used it for years, sometimes varying the amount of fruit and nuts to please different requests; some want more cake, some more fruit, some no nuts, etc. but the cake batter remains the same. Christmas does not begin until the smell of fruitcake fills my apt.

Hi MM and Sister – just wanted to say thanks for the Sister’s fruitcake recipe. My Mom has a fruitcake recipe which we follow every time we make one, but since this is the first time in years I have made fruitcakes again, my sister has not emailed to me My Mom’s recipe in time for my fruitcake baking expedition 4 weeks ago. So, I googled Sister’s fruitcake recipe in the archives and made them for this year’s fruitcakes (I also did David Lebovitz Choco Cherry Fruitcakes ). I got great reviews from family and friends, esp since Sister’s fruitcake recipe calls a lot of nuts! The smell of the nuts and candied fruits which I have marinated in brandy overnight was simply exhilarating and brought back the wonderful smell of Christmas for me when my Mom and my Dad would bake these fruitcakes. I only have 4 loaves left and we would have them over the next month or so. I plan to bake another batch next weekend, this time, using Mom’s recipe, so we can have our fruitcake supply to last until June ! Thanks again, Sister for sharing your fruitcake recipe.
