Anthony Bourdain’s New Show “Parts Unknown” on CNN…

Mr. Bourdain has been doing a barrage of press interviews to introduce/launch his new television program “Parts Unknown” on CNN, which premieres this Sunday, 14 April 2013 at 9pm ET. The first episode takes him to Myanmar, a place that has only recently cracked open just a bit and prior to a couple of years ago, was off-limits to most visitors. I am so happy Mr. Bourdain has found a new home, and that now we can look forward to truly unusual locations and food from places I can only dream of going to, or wouldn’t necessarily even see myself going to — Myanmar, yes… Congo, no… Libya, no… Koreatown L.A., yes. :)

But unbeknownst to me, in one of his lengthier interviews on CNN, someone asked him what was the best pork dish he has ever had… and of course his answer is a source of a continuing Marketman & Crew KILIG moment. :) See the video of the interview here, pay attention to 5:28 minute mark for the specific reference. :) It’s been almost five years(!) since we played host to Mr. Bourdain in late 2008, and his No Reservations episode on the Philippines aired in February 2009, so you’d think in the past five years he would have come across some other terrific pork dishes… We are honored to have made a lasting impression. :)

Many thanks to reader, G, who left a comment regarding this CNN interview. Salamat.

  1. Wow!. That was a kickass validation of Zubuchon lechon from Mr. Bourdain. Glad I was able to try the lechon when I was in Cebu.

  2. I just saw the video, and I admittedly felt the KILIG, too. Congratulations to you and your crew for creating a lasting impression on Mr. Bourdain!

  3. Since it has seen more than occasional usage in recent few posts, for the information of those who do not know the word, Other-wordy defines “kilig” as (n.) the rush or the inexplicable joy one feels after seeing or experiencing something romantic…

  4. Footloose, HAHAHAHA! Good one. I always thought it meant something more along the lines of giddy, excited, shivering with joy, and as one google source describes it… making your toes curl. :)

  5. OMG– S & I were just talking about this last night — he saw the interview and wanted you to know about it. I told him to call you but it wasn’t the right time. Glad you know about it. Congrats, even if it was an unnamed reference.

  6. I have got to try Zubuchon when I visit Cebu. Being in the USA and as a fan of Anthony Bourdain, I am so elated to watch him so proud of your lechon. Congratulations!

  7. I have always been quick to share your No Reservation stint! So great you get re-exposure!,, I’m giddy myself!

  8. Congratulations!!! Best pork ever, indeed! Looking forward to Mr. Bourdain’s new show.

  9. Marketman, after 5 years, you’re still getting a lot of mileage from Anthony’s visit. Good deal! I’ll be on vacation in Manila this coming May with my husband. We’re planning on visiting Cebu for some sightseeing and a quick trip to Bohol. I can’t wait to try your zubuchon!

  10. Awesome. Its nice to be remembered. Especially on one of the world’s stage’s that is CNN. I’m suprised that you and Mr. Bourdain don’t keep in touch. You two have simillar views and his recent blog about his new show reminds me of your previous posts on IP. Kindered spirits perhaps as both of you share a passion for candor, travel and good food.

  11. Getter Dragon 1, we don’t keep in touch, but he did respond immediately a couple of years ago when we asked permission to quote him on the “Best Pig, Ever!” line he used… he very graciously allowed us to use it for Zubuchon. That was extremely magnanimous and kind, given that he does not typically allow “endorsements” or suggestions of it, and that kind of problem (product placement without his approval) was the main basis for his leaving the travel channel and moving to CNN… if he ever chooses to return to the Philippines, I would be glad to help his production team with any advance research required… As for my occasional visits to New York to visit Sister, she lives in the same area he does… so maybe we will run into each other at his favorite Papaya King branch. :)

  12. Just watched the video. Zubuchon must really be so good for him to say that!

  13. Congratulations MM.

I am pleased to see Filipino food other than balut being talked about in the global community.
