Where we live, it is pala always native chickens cooked for birthdays and other fiestas. It is a delicacy---more expensive and naturally more tasty. My husband was gifted such by our carpenter/friend. The only thing was that the chicken was alive and we were told we had to kill it ourselves! We immediately got ourselves knowlegeable about the killing of chickens through a self-help book and persuaded it each other that the experience would do us good. We have chosen to live in the boondocks, right? The moment came and the chicken died in our hands. The dinner was very solemn like it was a spiritual communion for us. We thanked the chicken for giving its life to us. And from that time on, we know why it is necessary to always give thanks to all life for our sustenance.

MM,

I never understood why they have to torture the poor bird. Either way I think it still makes for a great soup. Comfort food for winter especially its just around the corner.
