Marketman’s Gingerbread Recipe (and Related Posts)

If you are new to the blog, you may have missed Marketman’s mini-obsession with gingerbread houses. It’s been an annual tradition in our home to make gingerbread houses ever since we had the kid, now teen… This year we are running a bit late, but the teen is doing her gingerbread house soon. It’s a simple affair this time around, more socialized housing than fantastical castle. But for those of you who wish to make your own and can’t navigate my search function to older posts, here are some links to previous posts on gingerbread, and Marketman’s modified recipe that holds up reasonably well in Manila’s ultra-humid weather:

  1. I can’t wait to see the Teen’s gingerbread socialized house. With your past gingerbread houses – it must be a spectacular one.

  2. Wheeeeeeeee…Christmas is really near when MM and family do their gingerbread homes…..can’t wait to see this year’s “village”…Gee MM….really feel like a wonderful “community” sharing our recipe experiences…and recipe booboos. Huhuhu…I made shortbread cookies and they were frumpy. Will either change my recipe or figure out what I did wrong. I normally find following a recipe easy…..Hahahahaha…

On your latest poll…I really can’t imagine Christmas in another place. I have spent Christmas away from home and there is no place like the Philippines to spend Christmas. The holidays really take an entire season..and the love and peace generated amongst family during this season can’t be replicated. You are…to me…now family. Wish I could send some of what I bake and cook to share…teeheehee…(not that you need it)….just to thank you for being our catalyst for all this love and fun in baking and cooking and being proud to be a filipino… (sigh)….thankee…

  3. my family and i just came back from shopping in one of bangkok’s malls. the decors are fabulous as usual but really, there is no place like home for Christmas, that is the Philippines. i voted in your latest poll just as i always do.

btw, eversince ive read your gingerbread posts, i wanted to do the same with my 4-yr kid. but im heavy with my second child right now and i just dont have the stamina to bake for longer hours. probably, we’ll do it next year.

do you have any recipe for a chocolate cake and chocolate frosting? thanks!

  4. Hi MM,

I read your previous blogs regarding your food distribution program. Instead of giving Christmas gifts to friends, I would like to donate instead to your feeding program. Would I be able to purchase Christmas cards instead saying that a donation has been given on their behalf?

    Thank you.

  5. I just read your December 5 post and it pretty much answers my question. Would you still have available ornaments and cards? :) I missed the Salcedo market,……

  6. tinsywinsy, yes, we will be at SM megamall on tuesday from 11 to 1pm, then S&R on Friday and again at Salcedo on Saturday, assuming there are still ornaments left by then… thanks!

  7. MM,my friend left for Manila 4th December and I gave him US$25.00 for your feeding programme. I just don’t know when he’ll deposit this, but I thought I’d let you know. Have a good day!
