White cardboard boxes and red and white twine are so much a part of my childhood as well. I think I have mentioned this to you before- my grandmother worked practically all her life in Royale Bakery (of Seinfeld's babka fame) on the upper Westside and I grew up spoiled with the best onion rolls, challah, rainbow cookies, rugelach, babka etc. I love William Greenberg and will readily spend $22.95 or is is $24 on a pound of cookies just to recapture my childhood memories. I miss Bonte terribly. Especially his croissants! So much so that I made sure all my breakfast breads came from him when I wed many years ago.

A simple post on red twine opened led me to a lifetime worth of memories. Thanks for this MM. Happy Holidays!

Ah! Afdell. I knew it sounded familiar - I had to check my Palm Desktop. I buy resealable plastic bags there for my business. I didn't really memorize the name of the shop I patronize, it was just pointed out to me by some vendors I asked. Probably because the area's too crowded with the street vendors piling on their wares two stories high. one can't even be bothered to look up and check a store's name.

725 Ilaya, that's right. About 2~3 stores away from the corner, across where the police outpost is. You can get there by walking straight on Juan Luna from Binondo. It's always crowded, and there's always a bunch of people in there looking at the various cake and pastry boxes, with that faraway glint in their eye dreaming about striking it big with their brownies.

This Christmas, Divisoria is one place you would NOT want to go into. Trust me, I was there yesterday.

too difficult to focus on this new post, what with my head still in the previous post -- hahaha!!!

i've been purchasing biodegradable food packages to use for "baon", for days when one would rather not be bothered with bringing washable food containers home. there's AFDELL for that. and check out PRINCE (849 carmen planas st., divisoria), and the dry goods section of the FARMER'S MARKET (cubao, qc).

baker's twine, if i can find any of the colored ones. if not, it'll have to be the usual red and green yarn.
