Movie product placement has a potent suggestive influence on the movie-going public. One of the biggest fails in product marketing was when the makers of M&M chocolates passed on an offer made by the producers of ET and the bonanza fell on the lap of the manufacturer of Reece’s pieces. So the rumored amount paid by Heineken might probably be a fair price for the influence thus peddled.

A splendid product placement opportunity that I thought was missed by language learning outfits such as Pimsleur was a scene in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) where Bond was in bed with his Scandinavian language tutor Moneypenny and the dialog went this way:

James Bond: I always enjoyed learning a new tongue.

Moneypenny: You always were a cunning linguist, James.

Moneypenny: [M walks up from behind Moneypenny] Don’t ask.

M: Don’t tell.

MM, AB is going into that direction… he was inspired by his experience in Singapore… international authentic cuisines and vendors from selected countries; more ambitious than La Boqueria de Barcelona, Mercado da Ribeira and Mercado de Campo de Ourique (Lisbon) which are mostly local produce and cuisines. Giddy with excitement, hope it opens soon!

Anthony B.’s place is supposed to open in 2 years; hopefully sooner. That will be amazing, knowing AB’s passion as far as authentic cuisines are concerned. They’re ironing the logistics of it bec. basically they have to acquire visas for those vendors coming out of the country. If MM can open his zubuchon, that will be heaven… one can get lechon in the East Coast but it’s either baked in the oven or cooked on coals (seasonal @ a Brooklyn rest.) but still not as good as the one you get in the Philippines.
