You have a beautiful family, MM. First time to see your daughter, she has grown from the back shots of her from the past. She's pretty and looks more of you than the Mrs. What a vacation you had! It truly is a trip of a lifetime!

What apparently got Juan Carlos into his current trouble was that he went on an elephant hunting trip two years ago. That he was in the company of a woman who was not the queen and the junket was underwritten by a Saudi businessman were just the icing on the cake. I say anyone who goes on a trip to kill elephants for sport and suffers a fall and then suffers another fall getting forced to abdicate his kingdom got his just deserts.

Perhaps not exactly like fish in a barrel but I would imagine 50 years to a century ago, spotting African wildlife would have felt quite similar. Throw a stone and you'd hit a leopard. Turn to your left and a herd of elephants is staring at you. Hey, what's that underneath the nearby tree - a pride of lions. A dark mass at the river further down - why, it's a huge herd of buffalo. And if there was literally a crashing sound, you'd bet the culprits were rhinos on a rampage.

Truly a privilege for MM and family to witness these special creatures in their natural habitat.

Your last photo shows a happy family with handsome smiles, seemingly unaware of the danger behind , the behemoth , though not in a dangerous stance giving the impression of charging in your direction.

If there is any animal whose sense of family, social development and relationships , and life span parallel our own, it is the elephant. They even share such emotional traits as grieving and shed tears like us. Other than Footloose , the elephant’s remarkable memory far surpasses ours, perhaps required by their long life span ( they can live up to 80 years!).Sadly, because of commercial demand for ivory their numbers have dwindled from a 3 million population in Africa down to 250,000 over the last 30 years.
