let us not forget Sen. Grace used her American passport 2009. The ampun issue is of no merit here but the fact that she renounced her Filipino citizenship and her immediate family are all Americans is a strike to her qualifications. And if she is elected it can be grounds for impeachment. Roll eyes here…here we go again. Nakakapagod na!

bsg, if Binay is elected, most likely with a less than majority vote, he will have to be subjected immediately to an impeachment process. No benefit of the doubt should be given to plunderers.

Thank you, Marketman for welcoming views different from your own. It is a sign of a healthy discussion when people are able to reasonably disagree without being disagreeable, something that I have always appreciated in your blog.

While all of us are entitled, should the need arise, to the services of a lawyer that each of us can afford, I would much prefer to have a lawyer who is a little more circumspect in acting while under emotional stress, who can reasonably argue my case based on legalities rather than feelings and who can be the voice of reason while leaving emotional outbursts, passion to me the client. While his actions seem to indicate otherwise, I wouldn’t know for sure whether Atty Rivera has or does not have these qualities.

And that is why, similar to what you do, I wait for some time to pass before I post anything online, giving me enough time to reflect on what I have written and correct any grammatical errors – both of which I failed to do in the previous post.

As part of disclosure, as this blog entry is tangentially related to the presidential candidates, the candidate that I would have wholeheartedly supported to run for President, unfortunately, is running for a different position. As of today, I have not made up my mind on who to vote for, perhaps because I am not ready for the responsibility incumbent on each of us when we do have our presidential candidate, as so expressed in the post below:

I just hope that at the end of the election season, we all, regardless of whom we supported, give whoever wins the benefit of the doubt and while remaining vigilant, line up behind our new leader to help bring our country forward.

Again, thank you for allowing me to express my views. I do not usually post online as I much prefer live discussions with friends over much teasing and laughter accompanied by some alcoholic spirits.

I agree on that sir. As the saying goes corruption is the root of all evils and in this country corruption encompasses everything “irregardless” of who the sitting president is.

bsg, I don’t disagree with your views at all… And I am relieved in a sense that there is serious debate amongst the justices to the point that there is no clear majority. It’s a separate issue, but I think cleaning up the justice system in the Philippines is one of the top 10 critical issues that needs to be addressed by the President/nation to progress in the future. It’s even more basic than corruption, which would be less prevalent if there was a properly functioning justice system.

hi marketman,

just to be clear, while i didn’t make any comments on your previous rants, i did enjoy them and for the most part, supported your arguments.

perhaps i am wrong, but it seems Atty Bruce Rivera, does not subscribe to the same strategy of waiting till the flames of passion merely simmers. I believe he did this prior to the publication of the full text of the decision from the SC, in effect, without full information.

Regardless of who Atty Rivera represents, his actions and statements, in my opinion, reflect choices made in haste or passion, qualities that i wouldn’t want in my lawyer.

bsg, great editorial, totally worth reading and considering. I find that went I rant, it’s best to wait a day or two, and to make sure I can defend what I say… and in the 11 years of this blog, never once have I had to take down, substantially revise, retract, or change the essence of a rant. And in many if not most cases, the rants have stood the test of time and actual outcomes of issues under discussion…
