Operating at 50% or less…

Despite a few posts that I added yesterday, using The Kid’s desktop computer, I am definitely not back to normal… With the help of two computer specialists, J & J, I have managed to retrieve most of my photos from my crashed laptop. I didn’t get everything and I haven’t managed to retrieve any old emails either. I also received some emails yesterday but am unable to respond to any emails for some reason. So I am not being rude, just tearing my hair out over techy issues. My new Mac arrived yesterday, hand-carried by a friend from HK, but I have barely managed to figure out how to turn it on and do this simple post, sans photos. I have not figured out photos yet. And my email is days away from working, I suspect. Lee, thanks for the designs, I got them. Frank, I got your emails, thanks, I can’t answer due to technical glitches. APM, I may need to hire your Mac guy for a week. And everyone else, I want to answer, but can’t. Meanwhile, it is The Kid’s birthday soon so we are crazed with the planning and implementation… Please keep yourselves busy with the archives, there are 1,360 posts in there to keep you occupied. Thanks!

  1. Thanks APM for the info, I got it and will head to the Mac store in greenbelt to sign up for private tutoring ASAP. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  2. ditto, happy happy birthday, the kid! Hope she’s getting something really special, like all girls in their teenage life wish. As to you, MM, good luck with the new MAC and hope it’s pretty easy to get started so we can read more amusing posts. hehehe :) :) :).

  3. Dear Marketman,
the switch to Mac should be pretty easy (and going back to PC, unthinkable)! You will be back in no time. See you up and running soon.

  4. Good luck with your Mac, have heard very good reviews about it, a brother who’s an engineer in san jose, ca., raves about it(he’s so techie)although his IBM served him several good years… So relieved that we’ll again be reading and seeing at least some photos that got lost along the way.
    Happy Birthday, Kid!

  5. Welcome to MacWorld (not the magazine)!
Good luck and enjoy your tutorials – am sure it’ll be a breeze!

  6. john paul, many many thanks for your kind offer, but we generally don’t accept gifts as a policy, though I have made some exceptions before. But thank you very much. The Kid is grateful nevertheless and actually is surprised by the number of greetings above… :)

  7. Hapy Birthday to your cute princess, although we only see a part of her fave or her profile in your posts.. :) I know how lucky she is to have a cool parents like you.. many more years for her..

am sure you would be getting the hang of it in now time.. i used to think it’s hard to use a mac before but in comparison, it’s really much easier to use.. less crashes and hangs!! goodluck!

  8. Advance Happy Birthday to The Kid! Am sure you have something very special in store for her (perhaps involving a cake and some cookies from Marta?). I hope we will hear about the fantastic birthday party.

  9. Happy birthday to The Kid!
MM, does your Macbook Pro come with the Leopard OS? I was considering getting one for work before, but was told by friends to hold off as a new model with Apple’s new OS was to be released late this year (within this month?).
PS: Essa, I did the unthinkable :) The requirements of my job, as well as document conversion issues, compelled my return to PCs. Saving for a Mac desktop for use at home, though!

  10. Happy Birthday to The Kid!

Glad to know things are starting to normalize after the PC crash. Thank goodness you were able to retrieve most of your pictures, MM!

  11. Happy Birthday to the Kid! I’m sure you’ll whip something great :)

And I’m sure you’ll get along just fine with your new toy. My husby and I are contemplating on getting a Mac too. They say you’ll never switch to a PC after…

Oh and your poll — there’s no Diet Sarsi :) no sugar and no caffeine!

  12. Happy Birthday to The Kid!

If my memory serves me right about the posts, MM mentioned that you are 11 so on your 12th birthday, I sincerely wish that you still get to enjoy and appreciate the thrills and wonder of being a kid eventhough you’re just just one year away from being a teenager.

MM, btw, for The Kid’s birthday next year, should be we addressing her as The Teen? =)
