17 Nov2007

Now I know what it feels like to be one of those guys handing out real estate brochures and leaflets….hahaha. No, seriously, we are back from S&R and have done a quick count and today’s event yielded PHP110,000! Thank you so much to the roughly 100 Marketmanila readers who dropped by the table today and many of whom left donations well above the suggested amounts! Right now we can probably provide 5,000+ meals for malnourished public school students! There was a bit of a rush when we opened at 9am (actually, we started a little earlier) but after the first hour, readers came at a more stately pace… I took a photo of the line at the start of the day but realized readers might not want THEIR faces on the blog so I have decided not to use the photo. My favorite moment of the day must have been when Kulasa, a long-time reader, showed up with a branch from an aratiles tree… now I know what it is! Thank you! And to bijin from Japan, thanks so much for sending your relatives with such a generous donation. I also loved the fact that U.S. readers were picking their styles and sizes of t-shirts by cellphone! And to the quiet but generous folks who left far more than they needed to, thanks as well. Several contest prize winners were unable to pick up their items, however…boohoo for them.

There are still a LOT of shirts and totes left, so I hope many of you have opted to pick up at the Megamall distribution site on Monday. Otherwise, Marketman and crew will have t-shirts to wear through the next millenium! :) Here are the details for the Monday pick-up point:

HeelSewKwik (near Aji Ichiban)
Basement Level
Megamall
Mandaluyong
11am – 1pm
Monday, 19 November 2007

If you are interested in a Cebu pick-up, please leave a comment here and I shall contact you by email to give you the details. If you tell me roughly how many t-shirts and totes you want, I can also better prepare what to bring with me when I go next week. If it looks like I need one or two more pick up points in late November, I will probably get one in Quezon City and another in the Makati area, but I will play it by ear until after Megamall and Cebu. Marketman, Mrs. MM & The Kid are really amazed by everyone’s kindness and generosity today. The kids at the beneficiary schools will be even more thrilled. A special mention to Edward, Grace and Cris of S&R who graciously provided today’s venue. Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat!

it was lovely meeting you both, and our ‘suki’ shirt is very cool–took the bitter edge off of not winning the lovely jam :P also, thanks for the tarte tatin tip, everything went as desribed in your recipe, and i am summoning the nerve to do the final flip.

It was good meeting you and the Kid today, Mr. Marketman. And I wanted to add: that torta was scrumptious. It didn’t hit me immediately when I was eating it at S+R, but when I started eating it at home. . .wow, it is indeed quite rich but still good. Very good :) The totes and t-shirts also turned out quite well.

It was really nice meeting you and Mrs. M., Ms. J. and Ms. L (of the indefatigable crew.. sorry to have missed the names of the two guys, but my hats off to them as well). Nice to hear you got a hoot off the aratiles branch. Really sorry I forgot to bring the ripe little red fruits but now you can send Ms. J off to look for a handful of aratiles for you. I’m sure she’ll enjoy doing it.

Should have made Mrs. M sign that tote bag too. Sorry to have missed the kid. Hey Kid, cool parents you got there!

I must say you do make a difference. 5000+ meals! WOW.. and that’s just for today.

Thanks MM and Mrs. M for making us readers feel greatful we can share what little we can offer.

The torta was delicious! I’ve only tried 2 other tortas ever, but yours was clearly the best one — so moist and buttery. I couldn’t resist, I started eating it right after I left the Fort to go to the *gym*! My hands were slick with butter afterwards. And you all know how I love butter! I liked the raisins in it, too.

THANKS HEAPS for what you’re doing, MM! Wow, may T-shirt na, may homemade torta pa! :-D

I was able to choose 2 perfect sizes for me and my hubby. He in fact loved the material and was even proud that he’s gone from large to medium and he really looked hunky wearing the marketmaniac black t. I’m never usually starstruck but got really shy meeting a famous blogger. The torta was less sweet than I would expect but would be good on coffee. Thanks also for signing the tote…i wouldn’t have mustered the guts to ask! A BIG thanks also for making us a part of this worthy cause.

MM, the brief chat with you was great and informative, too!

BTW, with this fund drive, my faith in the Filipino was given an added boost. We really can do things basta tulong-tulong, di ba? So, get your shirts and totes. They are of really good quality, are for a really good cause and you can have them signed pa by the FAMOUS MM! ;-)

Thank you again MM, Mrs, MM and to the Kid for the wonderful gift of the tote bag and the shirt!

I hope that there will be more good acts of these kinds in the coming years. Thanks again for the signed tote, in fact I was wondering if I will use it cause I don’t want the signed tote bag to get old and used, hahahhahah!!!!

I was in too much of a rush last Saturday because it was way past my baby’s lunch time (I was the one with the baby girl who looked like a baby boy hihihi)…i didnt get to thank you enough for giving all of us the opportunity to share a little bit of ourselves this Christmas. It was great meeting you and the Kid (was Mrs. MM there? I’m sorry I missed her). The Kid is gorgeous. And my husband and I loved the torta. It was our first time to try THAT kind of torta haha. Anyway, I hope this will be an annual, bi-annual event? :) By the way, I was ECSTATIC that we were able to get the “beat my eggs” shirt! ;p

Nonetheless, I am very glad to take part in this worthwhile Christmas project, MM. Thanks.
