Who Says Pigs Can’t Fly? :)

ZUBUCHON LOGO FA HI

Zubuchon finally airfreights whole lechons to Manila!!!

Please call (032) 236.5264 (M-F 9am-4pm) or 0917.627.4761 for more details.

It took us several months before offering an airfreight option because we were trying to make sure that the lechons reach Manila in the best possible shape despite their long journey… We experimented with at least 10 lechons, checked-in as accompanied baggage or actually sent as airfreight or unaccompanied baggage. We used different packaging options including cardboard boxes, styrofoam boxes, with vents, no vents, packed warm, etc. before we were satisfied with the results. While the airfreighted lechons are not the same as lechons that are fresh off the flames, we find that the lechons remain reasonably crisp if eaten soon after their arrival in Manila, and CAN be heated up until the skin is crisped up (instructions included in your shipment). So if you are Manila based, and can pick up your lechon from the airport, you can now taste a Zubuchon. Yes, the pigs can fly! :)

  1. Good News to all us Markeman. Perhaps soon you can find ways to ship to us here in California. It will be a dream come true. You know I was the one who always bugs you about a lechon recipe. I can’t wait for this to happen. BTW, How can I get a hold of one those Zubuchon Shirts. Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    jd

  2. When I get to Manila next year,Zubuchon will be the first thing I’ll be ordering to share with friends and the nuns. Can’t wait!

  3. Awesome news! But I still hope you find a way to sell on a per kilo basis, maybe in Salcedo Market? It isn’t everyday/everyweek that we can order a whole pig. But if we can get our hands on a kilo of Zubuchon every Saturday, now that is something else!

  4. Thank you to GMA7’s morning program “Unang Hirit” that is featuring Zubuchon on their program this morning as part of its feature on Cebu… :) I am watching the program as I type this… :)

  5. How about opening up a branch here in Southern California? I’ll be first in line for sure.

  6. Congrats, MM! Just saw a feature on Unang Hirit this morning around 8am on Zubuchon while on the bus to work. :)

  7. on my visit to cebu in february, i went to BTC to pick up zubuchon before my flight out. the staff were very friendly and informed me that i can pick up my order at the airport and it will be ready. sure enough, 4 kilos were packed and ready for me. the crew is doing an excellent job! friends and family in manila thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of zubuchon.

  8. oh, sayang, missed unang hirit! artisan chocolatier, congratulations on your son’s grad! and on the two zubuchons!

  9. congrats on another zubuchon achievement !!!! hope it become an international icon like jamon iberico of spain or parma ham of italy :)

  10. leaving this friday for cebu where we will spend the Holy Week. tasting, or rather, feasting on Zubuchon is top priority before fasting and abstinence on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

a Blessed Lenten Season to all!!

  11. Just posted on my FB page and already I have a group to share a Zubuchon with… Our only decision now is whether to have our lechon party before or after Holy Week :P I have a very strong feeling this is going to really take off, pun intended ;)

  12. i was in Cebu recently and got some zubuchon in the airport. Great service, great packaging. I followed the printed instructions for heating it — with excellent results! thanks MM

  13. sonia ner, glad to hear the purchase ended with a satisfying meal! myra p., either way, I strongly suggest you order it for dinner. Have the shipment placed on the 3 pm PAL flight, it arrives by say 430-500pm, and in your home in time for a 630/7pm dinner. And if you want ultra crisp skin, the skin can be separated from the body of the pig in sections and heated up in an oven. Then cut into bite sized pieces. sonny sj, Holy Week hours are curtailed so please call ahead at 0917.627.4741 or 032.236.5264 to ensure there is stock before you head to outlets. shasha, sorry, no dumaguete plans just yet. :) Joyce, at this point, we are shipping only one size to Manila, at PHP7,500 with cooked weight at roughly 13-16 kilos or so (this varies as pigs are sold by sight, not weight). At this range, the lechon comes out to roughly P470-576 per kilo, freight included. All you have to do is pick it up at the Manila airport. Lechon prices in Manila range from P550-700 a kilo. But Zubuchons have no MSG, have at least PHP500 more in all natural stuffing ingredients (herbs, spices, etc.) and use premium olive oils. Zubuchons are fed on our premises for a week or two before slaughter (with feed, fruits and vegetables) and are carefully accupunctured and cooked by hand rather than machine… So considering the extra ingedients and artisanal effort, we believe it is a very cometitive price. When ordering from others, make sure you compare mangoes to mangoes, and not just the overall price. :) Artisan, congrats on the new graduate and thanks for having Zubuchons at your celebration table! jtan, so happy you had a good experience and the crew are reading all of your comments, I promise! Quillene, mabuti ka pa! I was watching in Cebu and they showed the local news while the segments were playing in Manila, so I missed the relevant parts of the program! :( Lilibeth, Southern California? Hahaha. Manila is beyond our horizon at this point! Rico, I like Myar’s idea of a joint order and just splitting it up among friends. Four families would each spend less than PHP1,900 and end up with 3-4 kilos of lechon each. :)

  14. MM and Millet, Thanks for the kudos for my son!! The Mrs. and I are on cloud 9. He garnered 6 awards total (The most in his year) and surprised us by delivering the class response.

  15. Sabi ko na nga ba baka kasama yung zubuchon sa feature ng Unang Hirit this morning. Sayang I couldn’t stay home to watch it. Needed to leave for work na. And so finally, we will be able to order it from Cebu. Yehey!!!! :)

  16. MM, feature had me drooling on the bus since I skipped breakfast today. :)

BTW, a locally produced show called My Travel Blog on cable also featured Zubuchon at the airport. I forgot to tell you. I caught it airing just the past weekend I think.

Aren’t you worried of copycats since zubuchon is creating a whole lot of buzz and they are actually showing the “secrets” (perhaps only some) of the zubuchon process?

  17. We were on the same flight as Lyn Ching’s crew going to Cebu, and I think even back to Manila. Sa UH nga ba si Lyn Ching? :D I was hoping to get a taste of Zubuchon but the busy schedule during the overnight stay did not permit a visit to BTC :( Okay sana yung idea na maki-share nalang sa friends, kung mahilig lang sa lechon friends ko.

  18. Finally!!! We’ll definitely try this one of these days! We always order our lechon from Cebu, and my brother picks it up at the Manila airport. It excites us to try this ZUBUCHON flying pig! Baka we might say goodbye to our usual flying pig niyan!

  19. Thank You MM we do not need to go to Cebu to get Zubuchon. My wife and I will get in touch with your Cebu office shortly after we arrive in Manila on Sunday morning. hmmm

  20. This is great news! I’ve been calling the two numbers posted here but I can’t get through. I would like to order one for April 8 – dinner, for shipment on the 3pm flight to Manila. Can you get someone to send me a number to my email? Thanks. This is better than flying to Cebu for the pig though I’ve been seriously considering that. :-)

  21. Dear Marketman,
While passing by the Alabang-Zapote road in Las Pinas City this am, I saw a soon-to-be-opened food outlet with exactly the same Red Pig Logo of your lechon. I thought that this was a soon-to-open branch of yours, but I reread your posts, and there are no planned branches in the Metromanila area. The store is on the right side of the road, just past the SM Southmall, if you are headed in the direction of Las Pinas. I wanted to take a photo, but I was driving

  22. emsy, I think there is a 9am PAL flight which should make it to a noontime party, unless you live very far from the Manila airport. We don’t use Cebu Pacific due to delay issues in the past.

  23. Jojo, I don’t get to the Alabang area often… bummer if someone is using a similar logo, though we have registered it and could file a complaint if it is an exact copy… :(

  24. Hi MM. I saw the same thing as Jojo did when I passed by SM Southmall today. Zubuchon’s logo was EXACTLY copied, down to the details. Will try to send you a photo. That’s why I was confused too, since you never mentioned opening branches in Manila. The sign says : Ultimate Prito, Soon to Open.

  25. artisan chocolatier, double congratulations! all the more reason for the double zubuchons.

MM, am so gigil to find out about those copycats in alabang….polishing my fishpan….

  26. Epi, at this stage we have only accepted Manila orders, but please check with the Zubuchon crew if Davao is feasible… kindly contact them at 032.236.5264 during office hours. Thanks. :) fidkei, thanks, a disturbing development, this logo “napping” to be sure…

  27. fidkei, ARRRGGHHH, why does this seem to happen to me more often than usual? :) Thank you so much for taking the time to photograph and upload these images, will do a post on them soon. May I have your permission to use one of the photos in the post if I can figure out how to download it and insert it into a post? Many thanks.

  28. MM, glad I could help. :) You may use the photos for any purpose they may serve. You can right-click on a zoomed picture to save it to your computer.

When someone is famous the copycats are always a few steps behind, wanting to cash in on the fame. They say imitation is the best form of flattery, but I say sue the heck out of them!

  29. Hi MM! I was wondering if there are any plans for a Zubuchon stand in the NAIA airport in the future? It will be great for us balikbayans who want to take your infamous lechon abroad, not a whole pig of course but a couple of kilos would be really awesome!

  30. Raquel, sorry, not plans for retail sales outside Cebu. Crew is located there, and the space/staffing requirements for a production area are substantial if you do it right. As for the Manila airport, I doubt a cooked food outlet would thrive, as most foreign countries do NOT look kindly on the importation of meat products, raw or cooked…
