Out to Market…

Blog silence for a few more days. I have access to the internet, but not from my laptop, so I can’t do new posts without a bit of acrobatics. So please amuse yourselves with the stuff in the archives until I manage to get back to my own desk… But just to keep you updated, other topics from this current trip to the U.S. Northeast trip include a visit to a seafood festival at Hampton Beach New Hampshire, a small town New England Saturday market, a giant 775 lb pumpkin, lunch at Casa Mono of Mario Batali in NYC, front seats at a fledgling designer’s show during New York’s fashion week, and noodles at Ippudo. Right now I am headed to the Union Square market to see what’s on offer in early autumn… here are some old posts from this same market, mostly taken during the Spring…

  2. your ‘blog silence’ is good for me! take as much time as you need :) as I am also too tied-up to blog-hop at the moment. Enjoy your ‘marketing’ MM!

  3. MM,

    Can’t wait to read your review about Casa Mono! We’ve eaten there a lot in the past couple months, and while some dishes are excellent, others are just so-so.

    I’ll be at the Union Square Market today too, so if I spot someone I think is you, I’ll say hi! ;)

  4. MM you’re here in NYC!!! wish I could bump into you and just say thanks for all the blog posts that you’ve been doing…and for all the help that you do to everyone. Have fun and enjoy the rest of your trip!

  5. Hello MM!

    I mentioned this macaron-maker on your blog before when you went to Paris, but there were lots of comments on that thread. If you check this before you leave New York, I highly recommend a visit to Kee’s Chocolates so you can sample her Asian-inflected macarons. Her store is in Soho, on Thompson St between Spring and Broome. She’s her own entrepreneur as well, everything is made fresh and local.

    The Rosewater-Lychee macaron is to die for.

    Enjoy the Big Ugly!

  6. Caveat: some of her ingredients are obviously imported, but by local I mean that it’s just her and a couple of her staff making the chocolates/macarons on premises.

  7. Christina, bummer, I was on Spring Street yesterday briefly, if I had known, I would have stopped in for a macaron. :{

  8. Hi there, MM–enjoy NY–a cloudy day…perfect for browsing at the Market. maybe you’ll be back on Spring St for another day…MM’s “so near yet so far”..hehe

  9. Vickie, I hit porchetta on the last trip to NYC, just haven’t had time to post about it yet. :)

  11. despite the chilly weather, after all your trips and wonderful lunches, id recommend that you hit the vanleeuwen ice cream truck here in soho. (greene and prince) im here now at the apple store about to get another round. :) the ginger flavored ice cream is note worthy.

  12. Are you going to try any of David Chang’s restos? Momofoku Ssam Bar & his pork-centric noodle bar? Would like to hear your take on them.

  13. Vicky, I tried momofuku nearly two years ago, but wasn’t particularly impressed. We were there during the day, not late night when I gather it is at its prime, but the meal was so ordinary that I didn’t even bother to do a post on it… Maybe I missed something as others have RAVED about his food, it’s worth a second visit now that a friend of my niece is in their kitchens… :)
