  1. Congratulations to all three of you! Keep your checkbook handy for the next four years :)
    To infinity, and beyond!!

  2. How time flies! From a skinny teen to a budding young lady! Congratulations to the Teen and her proud parents.

” You are the bows from which your child(ren) as living arrow(s) ( are) is sent forth”
    The Prophet: Kahlil Gibran

Enjoy before the Teen sets off on her own quest.

  3. Congratulations to the Teen! And a bigger congratulations to the Parents…it is not easy to raise a child in the best mold and you did it MM and Mrs.MM! From the previous article on her in a local mag I can sense that she has her feet firmly planted on the ground. And she’ s really pretty with her cute dimples! I am sure you have your hands full warding off the boys around her!

MM, you are so preppy as well in your lime green shorts! :)

  4. Congrats to the Teen! Your whole Marketmanila “family” is so proud of you! Hope college will be a blast!

  5. YEY! Couldn’t be more prouder! time flies fast apparently….Congratulations to the Teen and to the equally proud parents too :)

  6. Congratulations to the proud parents as well as the elegant young lady. May you fly as high as you can!

  7. Congratulations to your Teen on this milestone! Congrats to you and Mrs MM too.

I would be very interested to hear how you weighed the advantage of a world class education and the risk of exposing a child (preteen at that time) to a very sexually permissive culture. Even if one says it depends on conservative values & upbringing, even the best of them can succumb to peer pressure and the hooking up culture. My BIL sent his son to the US for university but refuses to do so for his daughters for this reason.

I’m no prude and don’t believe a girl should “preserve oneself for marriage” but the hook up culture is pretty wild. As a parent who is contemplating sending her 2 pre-teen girls to the US for university in the near future, I would be interested to hear your take on this.

  8. Congrats to the Teen! And of course to MM and Mrs. MM! You must be soooo proud!:)

  9. Good education, the best thing parents can bestow on their children and, of course, good schooling helps too.

  10. Congratulations to the Teen on her graduation, and kudos to the proud parents! What a milestone! Harvard here she comes! :-) Nothing but the best for your unica hija. To study in one of these prestigious college pre-schools must be such an amazing experience. The Teen will definitely go places. Good luck and enjoy college life!

  11. aww…look at that…the teen…all grown up…*sniffling* you have a tissue?

  12. Congratulations MM, Mrs MM, and of course the Teen! My youngest graduated from High School too last year, and the adventure continues! Love those shorts, you definitely got the dress code right!

  13. congratulations to the whole family! because of this blog, i feel that the Teen has grown up “right before our very eyes”.

  14. Congratulations to the Teen and the proud parents. It is milestone indeed.

  15. Congratulations! :)

In another year or so, we’ll be reading about The Adult instead of The Teen ;) …Man, that makes me feel old.

  16. Congratulations Teen, Mr & Mrs MM!

Wow, I’m so clueless that I didn’t even know that she studied in the US.

  17. Congratulations to The Teen! Wow it seems like we watched her grow too. Best wishes. If I may ask what college degree is she pursuing?

  18. @Gigi – I have a friend who does the reverse. She sends her kids both boys and girls to the Philippines during their high school years precisely because of the conservative values and upbringing here. She gets them back to the US for college education. My SIL is having a hard time coping with her teenagers in the US now. She has trouble reconciling the difference in her upbringing and how it is in the US. She migrated maybe 10 years ago.

  19. Congrats to the teen and to the proud parents! The campus is beautiful by the way. I can’t quite remember the name of the school so I had to look it up again. She made a brilliant choice of prep school :-)

  20. congratulations to The Teen, and i honor you MM and wife, for raising such a beautiful lady and responsible one! God bless u more!

  21. Congratulations to you, to Mrs. MM, and to the Teen. I remember how proudly you spoke of The Teen when you were on Vancouver. Looking forward to the next milestone.

  22. Congrats to the Teen and proud parents. On to the next chapter of her life. Safe travels.

  23. Congratulations to the Teen, MM and Mrs. MM. With all these best wishes around, it really does take a village to raise a child :-)

  24. Congratulations to the Teen and to Mr. and Mrs, MM ! You must be so so proud of her.

  25. Congratulations to the whole fam! A good education is the best gift a parent can give her child.

  26. Wasn’t it just recently you wrote about a trip to the states looking for a school?!? Gee how time flies. Congratulations to you, mrs, and the teen!

  27. Congratulations are in order, to the Teen and the parents…

The question that came to mind after reading that article in a local mag last year that featured the Teen and some other kids away from home for schooling was: how do parents of an only child survive the loneliness of having the child away for long stretches of time? Kids are resilient, parents are not! Plus having to worry about temptations and issues mentioned by @gigi…

The question that came to mind after seeing the teen’s picture above: how can she stay so slim when she has easy access to wonderful food?

  28. Woooohoooooo Congratulations to the teen!!! And to the proud parents as well!!!

  29. Congratulations to the Teen, and to the proud parents Mr and Mrs MM. Naku, soon the Teen will be a twenTeen-ager! :)

  30. Congrats to the teen! MM, this reminds me of the saying that the best thing you can give to your children are roots and wings, and you have certainly done both! P.S. I know we’re all fond of food, but I think you meant palette instead of palate :)

  31. ykmd, hahaha, you are absolutely correct, will edit. Thanks. Food-centric indeed. :) friedneurons, it’s hard to get away from the Pelican mascot…

  32. Congratulations, is it the same school of Jaime de Jesus (son of Rica Lopez-de Jesus) I remember reading over at her blog at Heart-2-heart that there is also a Filipina in her son’s prep school and the last name is the same as yours.
