Lechons for the Next President & Vice President…

Hopefully. :) I take it as a good omen that during a typical hotel buffet breakfast this morning, we were seated a few feet from the table of former President Ramos. I went over to say hello (my father was a friend of his from way back when) and chatted with him and several members of his party (some of whom Mrs. MM and her brother had worked with previously) about names and events which I believe may have even pre-dated my birth! :) It was a pleasant exchange, and when asked what I was doing in Cebu, I answered I was donning my lechonero hat today…

Cebu is bustling/crazed today with several of the current crop of presidential and vice presidential candidates, former politicians, etc. in town for a series of events, forums, debates, and what have you. Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas are also here today to campaign and attend a fund-raiser planned for them this evening to raise funds to train poll watchers in every barangay in Cebu during the May elections. Cebuanos engaged in business, politics, education, medical and other professional fields are sitting down to one large lugaw and toppings dinner by Chef Derek Dytian tonight. Zubuchon is proud to be a sponsor and will be contributing several lechons to have with the lugaw, and the appetizers will be provided by Margarita Fores.

So with the day starting off with a chance meeting with a former President (and one of the better ones we have had in recent memory), I am hoping that the day will end with the next President and Vice President sinking their teeth into just a bit of that Zubuchon skin. :)

  1. i know that most will want this blog to be apolitical but i just wanna say that they have my vote!!!

  2. i hope more people will contribute so people will be encouraged to be poll watchers…it’s a great way to ensure clean elections.

  3. OT: we are watching the presidential forum..and ERAP has provided major entertainment from the very start. If you are not watching now, better watch the replay.

  4. I heard it from the grapevine: Marketman will be the very first ever Cabinet Member with the title of Secretary of Food! Nobody will ever go hungry anymore!

  5. Thumbs up MM. I would rather have the next president and vice president enjoy Zubuchon, the best pig ever, than watching the news how politicos put pork in their pockets

  6. I was at the forum last night and based on how the men answered questions, my perception of sincerity and body language, I was most impressed by Gibo. I think most people who were there thought the same; he won the mock election.

  7. First off – Great redesign! Encourages serendipitous browsing down memory lane. Specially kind to seasonal recidivists who cannot rearrange life to allow year-round visits.

    Second – I gather that he is one of your cuisine idols and in retracing your lechon odyssey, I can’t avoid noticing that your entire exploration embodies and affirms his view that it is not brain surgery to be a great cook, you need only to:

    Use the best ingredients;
    Use the best tools;
    Do the task over and over again until it is mastered.

    Finally – You recounted not finding any guide about the subject when you set out in your lechon adventure and yet arrived at the destination crowned with a resounding validation from no less that AB himself who has gone great distances seeking the ultimate pig treats and therefore knows whereof he speaks. Forgive me then for leaving out passion, your most important ingredient methinks, and tongue-in-cheekyly encapsulate the feat with:

    A gourmet, roasting pigs in Cebu,
    Turns them crisp and so crunchy to chew,
    Well, the secret is pin,
    To punch holes on the skin,
    The stuffing, and his army of crew.

  8. Noynoy has not done anything for himself I am afraid. All his glory is credited to his parents. I believe that this country needs a leader who can think, and not just live on hopes and dreams. More power to the best pig ever.

  9. I will support you all the way to Secretary of Food MM but sowee no support here for Noy…Mar is ok :)

  10. I got used to enjoying lugaw with tokwa and baboy so I guess a soyed vinegar dip that goes with it will ruin my zubuchon.

  11. It’s interesting to see what your readers are thinking politically! Thank you ZUBUCHON!
