The “Princess” Graduates from Middle School

grad1

Yup, it seems like just a few blinks of the eye since the “princess” popped out of her mother nearly 14 years ago. I recall the tense early morning wait in the hospital by myself, and checking her out as soon as I could, to see if all ten fingers and toes were in place (Mrs. MM’s request). It has been a simply stupendous 14 years since, and if there is one thing I will never regret, it is choosing to retire from a very hectic career and do less work to make sure that I got to see as much of her early years as possible. She graduates in a couple of hours and we just sent her off to school to do whatever they do before the big event. Milestones such as these always mean flowers in our home. So for the Teen’s graduation day, we made this large but extremely simple arrangement of white lilies… The card is from Mom, Dad & Dog. :)

And yes, as with all teenagers, the outfit is everything. The all-consuming quest during the past few weeks for that perfect piece of clothing. We had to work within school mandated parameters for color and style, but I think she did just fine. She may be just under 14, but she certainly is developing an eye for her personal style, and of course, her mom and dad are brimming with parental pride. And the shoes? What 14 year old doesn’t aspire to serious heels? It’s bad enough she is taller than her mother, but that she wanted serious heels had eyebrows raised and lips pursed. And our only request was “you can have them if you can handle them” and after several days of practice, she is looking like she was born in pumps. Frivolous, I know, but it is her graduation, so we have allowed more latitude. And in the second photo, meant mostly for my relatives abroad who wanted a peek at the final outfit, that’s MM trying to get the chocolate labrador to sit and be photogenic. Happy Graduation to the Teen! And beware, any future “prince” wannabees! Hahaha! Time for MM and Mrs. MM to get dressed. :)

  25. “Your Children are not Your Children

They are the sons and daughters of life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.”
    The Prophet. Kahlil Gibran

Congratulations to the Teen! And MM, you are really lucky to be able to do what you’re doing . Enjoy before the Teen goes her way.

  26. Congratulations to “Teen Princess”. You have such an impeccable taste, love your outfit plus the shoes! Keep it up!

  27. congratulations to the princess and her parent’s:) the dress is beautiful, very princess-like.

  28. The dress looks like something Lola Neny would have made for her… very 60’s. So glad thing come back full cycle.

  29. The dress looks like something Lola Neny would have made for her… very 60’s. So glad things come back full cycle.

  30. “The Princess” that’s exactly what we call my little niece! She has the privilege of being the only girl among the two boys between me and my sister. And that little princess knows how to work her girly girl charms to get her way – especially Grandpa’s.

Celebratory cheers are in order for “The Teen” and the proud parents!

  31. WOW!! my prayers to your family in this milestone!! what a beautiful outfit! LOVE the shoes on those lovely feet and legs! may i see the purse?? heehee..

  32. Congratulations to the Teen and to the proud parents! Dear MM, will you shower the Prince-wannabe with water from your hose, too? (remember that TV ad?) heeeheee! Or will you ‘screen’ potential Lotharios via a competition ala-Iron Chef? After all, with gourmets for parents, The Teen a.k.a. The Princess is undoubtedly one, too. Forewarned is forearmed!

  33. MM, I noticed two right hands on the chocolate Labrador… Would that be you and Mrs MM trying to get the dog to pose for the photo?

  34. Congrats to MarketFamily!

You’re right MM, time flies fast but wait: the next 4-6 years will be faster (I should know, all of a sudden, my daughter’s a stubborn 21 year old!). Enjoy, savor, sit back, relax. I think when your daughter gets married, guess who will be the fussy one? ;-)

  35. I know of several fathers who couldn’t attend their daughters’ graduations because they fear that they might be seen crying or just even teary-eyed. :-) One is a fisherman and another a construction foreman.

When I saw your Teen once with you and Mrs MM, I really thought she was an exceptional beauty ( and surely getting to be more)! Another phase for parenthood—getting the wannabee “princes” at bay :-D! Congratulations to the MM family!

  36. Wow, that dress is classic. Congrats on raising a fashion savvy teen (among other things). :)

  37. Congrats to The Teen and of course, MM and Mrs. MM! Brought to mind tuloy your “postura” entry about your mother, MM. May pinagmanahan naman pala kasi. Love the entire outfit and accessories.

  38. Congratulations to the Teen and the proud parents!!!This is another start of of new beginning…

  39. Much ado for something very special. Happy graduation to the teen and a comforting congrats to the parents.

  40. Hi everyone, thank you SO VERY much for your kind comments and greetings… I am sure the Teen would have wanted to leave a comment of thanks as well, but she was off first thing this morning on a class trip. Original flight on Cebu Pacific at 825 am this morning. Moved to 1110 am, overbooked, so offered a 12:20 flight, and only after accepting, told that the flight was delayed to 3:30pm. So they have been in the airport for nearly 8 hours and up earlier and thank goodness there are several teens together to keep them amused, but WHY DO PEOPLE TOLERATE this from Cebu Pacific, another CP rant welling up, can you tell?… At any rate, in answer to the questions posed above, the dress was purchased at a department store, the shoes are locally made and mall purchased and the bracelets were of “white turquoise”, very reasonable (PHP200 or so) from the Greenhills tiangge. :) It was me making the dog attempt to sit, Mrs. MM taking the photo. natie, no purse. jennifer, the lilies were from one of my suki suppliers, King Louis from the Manila Seedling Bank. The full arrangement required 30 stems of lilies. Sister, Sister and Brother… thanks for tuning in. :)

  41. It is normal for Cebu Pacific to cancel or delay flights. Exactly my thoughts, why do people tolerate this from Cebu Pacific. Like someone from TripAdvisor said, you get what you paid for????

Btw, did you pre-order the 30 stems of white lillies? I ordered white ones for my Dad’s birthday last Aprill 11 but only pink ones came so I just got white astromeria & belles of ireland instead :(

  42. Tricia, no I didn’t pre-order. I actually went to the Seedling bank wanting to get 5-6 pots of phalaenopsis or butterfly orchids. But there weren’t many nice ones, so I walked over to the King Louis warehouse and freezers and chanced upon the white “siberia” lilies. And since they had been there 3 days in the cold, they gave them to me for PHP80 each, 1/3rd the price in a Makati grocery and probably 1/4th the price of a flower shop… a terrific deal, if you ask me.

  43. I have several friends who encountered similar incidents with Cebu Pacific but none of them actually filed a suit. The reason would probably be the fact that our courts are very very conservative in awarding damages that it would not be worth the hassle and effort. Plus the very slow movement of cases in court that can be financially and emotionally draining.

  44. Ley, I wasn’t even thinking lawsuit, but if folks just stopped taking the airline, maybe they would start to notice. I am not PAL’s greatest fan, but at least all four of its flights to that city today left on time, according to their website. On Cebu Pacific, you can’t even check on their website what time a flight is leaving or whether it has left at all… :( As for refunds, that is another story for a brilliant class action lawsuit for thousands of consumers. A relatively easy case, and if covered enough in the mainstream press, would probably result in positive action on the company’s part. I think I still have a ticket from 2+ years ago that was never credited back to me… it’s the first time I have totally GIVEN up on a situation like that.

  45. Cebu Pacific has yet to refund me the ticket I canceled last year. There had been many follow ups, but I guess it would never be credited back to me. Hay naku!

I only used CP for a HK trip 2 yrs ago as reward ticket for my bpi world perks. I swear I will not take CP anymore after that. Pathetic naman, would I buy C2 at P100????

  46. To MM, Mrs. MM and the Teen. Congratulations to all of you.

    GOOOOD JOOOOB !!!!

The dress is simple but beautiful and tasteful.

  47. Not too late to add my congratulations – felicitaciones, bien hecho!! The Teen and proud Mom and Dad. God bless you.

  48. congratulations to the teen!!!!! MM & Mrs MM, you should be so proud of her……future prince charmings….watch out!!!!!!

  49. Congratulations to The Teen and her proud parents! Love the outfit! Shows she’s got a fine taste in clothes.

  50. Is that Audrey Hepburn? … Is that Natalie Portman? … No, It’s The Teen! … Congratulations! … Funny photo.

  51. congratulations to the teen, the proud parents, and to the dog as well… impeccable style and taste, ms. teen!

    – HI TITA! (x2) HI TITO! thanks for your comments! :) –

oh. you may not know it, but my hand gestures in the second photo are peace signs, PEACE!

    \m/ (-.-) \m/

  53. MM, I’ve always wanted to ask because I’m quite curious, but I guess I never found the correct post to comment about it. Have you thought of what you’ll do once the Teen starts to have suitors and go into that phase? I mean, a lot of parents switch gears during this period. I wonder if you’ll be the type who accepts suitor visits to your home but you open the door with a cleaver in your hand. haha

  54. emsy, I think the Kid, now Teen, has a wonderful foundation of basics and is well armed to conquer her world going forward. I think knowing when to let go in phases is as important as anything else. I have no doubt she will think and conclude when it is appropriate for someone to come a calling at home… :)
