Want to Join MM & Other Readers for a Beach Barbecue on Friday the 13th of June?!?

On Friday the 13th of June, several “old-timers” from the blog (Joey, Lee, Moni, Loney Kitchen, Roy, Ging, Millet, Marla, Joan, etc.), who have gotten together once or twice a year for the last several years (since Marketmanila’s first eyeball some 8+ years ago) are coming out to our beach house in Nasugbu for a lunch time barbecue. Not sure what’s on the menu yet, but these get-togethers are always a blast with loads of laughter vying with lots of food. And this year, we are inviting both Gejo of Malipayon Farms and Nacho of Toscana Farms (both in Tagaytay) who promise to bring some spectacular produce for the lunch. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I will be opening up say 4 slots for other readers to win an “invitation” to join us for lunch. At least 1 or 2 of those winners must have a car they can use to drive out to Nasugbu on Friday, the 13th of June and if they are extra nice (might be able to give other winners a ride out if they don’t have their own transportation). I’m sorry I can’t invite more, but twenty people total is probably the maximum we can seat comfortably. We will hopefully be putting our new barbecue through its paces along with other dishes from seafood from the nearby Nasugbu market and anything else that seems like a good idea. I haven’t worked out the mechanics of how to find the four winners, but I hope to publish a post on that in the next few days or so. So please check this blog often over the next few days for instructions. Think of this as a “mini-eyeball” with old and new friends. Good luck!!! :)

  1. waaaa I hope I win :D I don’t have a car, but I’m sure I can figure the way :D all I can bring into the table is probably cashew araro/uraro from Bataan :)

  2. Alas, my hopes of ever attending one of your EBs has been dashed again… am off to El Nido on that date… I do hope there will be another EB sometime soon? :)

  3. Hubby will be out of town that day so I guess I can have the driver and car at my disposal :) I hope I win!

  4. Footloose, if you read this, go back to the post on losing all the comments… our brilliant tech guy has managed to restore the comments in the Bistro Filipino post!

  5. June, Friday the 13th….maybe, just maybe, it may be my good fortune to finally join an eyeball we missed coming to in Cebu with betty Q and silly Lolo ( wonder how he is).

  6. Ms. Connie C….Kamusta na? Silly Lolo is now the life of the party in the GREAT BEYOND!

Shouldn’t you be back by now over here?

  7. Hi bettyQ. So sorry to hear about silly Lolo, but you are right. They must be having a ball with him up there. Back in ‘Pins for good, more or less, to spend the rest of the autumn/winter years of our lives. Hubby’s health issues require 24/7 care and we decided it is best for him here.

I am even watching teleseryes, but only the fantasy ones that I can stand and lots of lifestyle programs on cooking and travel. If the TV set were a cardboard box, it would be so frayed by now with tears on demand….. ad infinitum. But good to be sharing jokes in one’s own language!

  8. dear MM, i lived too far away and i dont have a car, dont even drive. i guess i’ll just have to settle with reading your blog, you guys, enjoy and hope you will take a lot of pictures for us who will not be chosen.

  9. Cross my finger. Really want to win this. I was there in the 1st eyeball of MM in Galileo Enotica, he was such a generous person and always has been.

  10. MM, for a follower to have a chance to see and mingle with foodie greats, this is one event that I look forward to joining if the odds are to my favor =)

  11. Sand between my toes is something I need for my sanity! Not going anywhere anytime soon though. Enjoy and I’m keeping an eye out for photos from the beach party! :)

  12. Oh my, condolence to the family Silly Lolo left behind – both of blood and virtual.

MM, if I don’t win, can Uyab and I crash your party for a few mins? We’ll ride on two wheels from Alabang to Batangas for this! Hahahaha!

  13. I’m NEVER lucky when it comes to winning things, so medyo nalungkot ako. But I’m still keeping my fingers crossed! :)

For those of us who won’t be picked, puwede kayang we meet up na rin? :)

  14. There are 365 days in a year and it has to be June 13! I will be in Cebu that day…oh well will try my luck next year. Congrats to the winners! I’m sure MM will make you full and happy : )

  15. … oh and should I win, I’ll definitely be willing (and eager) to get my hands dirty in the kitchen. Probably with stars in my eyes too! =)

  16. You-all sure that news of Silly Lolo’s passing away is not exaggerated huh? because there’s nothing more irksome than hearing the impatient news of your own demise. It’s worse than this fellow dying upstairs smelling the cookies that his wife was taking out of the oven so he rolled himself out of bed, inched slowly down the stairs and into the kitchen. As he reached up the kitchen table for a cookie, the wife saw his hand and swatted it saying “that’s for your wake!”

  17. Footloose, actually the news is several months old, as a reader had earlier confirmed with his daughter about the sad news…

  18. Footloose: Keep commenting or if we start missing you after long stretches, we may think you too have passed!:)

  19. OffT: footloose et al, here’s the link to silly lolo’s daughter’s blog. it’s not on private so i hope she won’t mind if it’s posted here–https://vmontes.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-post-where-i-say-my-father-died.html

  20. i hope i win a slot, and i have a car and i will volunteer to bring others who need to get there but cannot (or do not want to) drive all the way to nasugbu. :)

  21. It would be a wonderful thing if I win a slot!
I was at your eyeball at Gourdo’s before..

I can’t believe it has been YEARS already!!

    Love, Didi

  22. Silly Lolo was one of those lolos you wish you had! Ms. Montes sure is very fortunate! There was one post in her blog about Silly LOlo orchestrating a Dungeness crab race between her apos! Now who would have ever thought of having a crab race?!? Anyone has ever seen a crab dash to the finish line? I can just imagine Silly LOlo coaxing the crabs…DALI!!!!!!!.. A sight to behold and you can catch a glimpse of Silly Lolo!

  23. Yes, really hard to pull off since crabs are side-crawlers. You have to ply them with liquor first until they are drunk so they would crawl in a straight line.

  24. how i wish to experience one of your eyeball MM and to meet up the gang that makes this blog so lively.

am glad also to see/read that all comments are back ^_^…

  25. Shucks, I missed the one in Cebu years ago. I hope to get/win an invite again this time hahaha!

  26. Long time lurker here. So saddened by the news about silly lolo. :( he’s one of the peeps here that I always look forward to for his comments . Oh well, must be in a happier place now. Pretty sure he’ all be looking down at you guys who will be having a blast on the 13th! Will wait for the post then and pics plus witty comments. I actually panicked last time when I checked the site. Thinking carefully if I was able to save some of the comments w/ recipes specially from ms Bettyq. :) glad they’re back.

  27. Sad to hear about silly lolo. God bless his soul and condolence to those he left behind….
